Manchester City Football Club Sensory Room
To accompany a dark room containing sensory toys, a separate quiet room was to be designed to create a comfortable environment for people with sensory processing issues to watch football matches live.
The ideas and concepts for the room were thought about with the safety of the user in mind, along with thinking about what would make the space enjoyable for a big Manchester City fan, so that they felt immersed within the stadium without having to be seated with the big crowd outside.
By bringing some of the seating you’d find pitch-side into the room against a backdrop of the stadium’s in-bowl interior, the person would be able to feel immersed in a City environment, having the choice of sitting on these seats or on beanbags closer to the window to see out.
The kitchen area became an additional interactive element to the room, where the cupboards are magnetic whiteboards for drawing and using magnets to play games. The contra vision on the window allows for the people to get the privacy they need as they watch the game.
